Blog Birthday!

Hello Everyone!

It’s my blog birthday post! One day late.

So what do I do for a blog birthday? I had wanted to design and do a wood craft of some sort, but the week got away from me. So I thought of doing a 1 year recap. First

I started out this blog with the intentions of showing my wood crafts that I was doing mainly using a scroll saw. But I guess, as with all blogs, it evolved to include thoughts and ideas and just a what is going on with life, happenings. Pages were added as ideas came along. That included my Thankfulness page, with monthly dividers and daily additions, hopefully keeping it somewhat neat, easy to read and followable. Thankfulness

I started this out with a couple questions/contest to maybe jump start interest. That seemed to fail. So I will answer them here.

One was what is this tulip used for?

It is a plastic bag holder for drying them.

My Dad made these, so I made some too. After washing out a sandwich bag slip it over the flower to dry and reuse. Don’t just throw them away! Tulip

How is the coloring done on these?

Dipped in a bowl with a food coloring and water mixture.

You could also do this with a brush to mix colors on the wood. Then you need to seal it as the colors do bleed if it gets wet. #1 and Numbers

I did what I call Desktop names. Desktops

I still have these. Know anyone who wants them? HINT! HINT!

I gave a lot of these away as gifts to family and friends, sold a couple.

During the football season I did football jerseys.

These were good sellers!

Once I moved my work space inside during the winter I got slack and started messing up with the spray paint or spray lacquer. You gotta follow the directions! Stay far enough away from what you are spraying. Don’t get too close.

Here's what happens if you get too close!

See all those bumps? This wasn’t even the worst one. The spray goes on looking good, then in a matter of minutes it can get all alligator skin-like. Oops, and It was me

Christmas was coming so I started with the Christmas theme. Hey it’s coming again soon!

I did reindeer.

A snow flake

A lot of name and word ornaments!

Those were good sellers too.

Our dining room and table got turned into a painting station! Busy

Here's a shot of the dining room table.

You can see the reindeer, some ornaments and some desktop names. I was also getting ready for a Christmas craft fair. Hey that’s coming up soon too!

Here's last years display.

I did a late birthday gift for a brother.

For his golf bag.

Here is what was probably the hardest piece I did. Yet it was fun to do too.

A Heart shelf

That turned out really nice. I even impressed myself! Heart

Here is a future project that I took a picture of. I still need to size it and then print it.

An owl trivet.

Along with many others of course!

I did a blog series on how I do it. It, was a desktop name and when I finished it, packaged it and sent it via the Post Office that’s the last it was seen or heard from! It disappeared in the postal maze and I lost the shipping receipt. I will do another one. Series start

I posted about Wheaton Academy football last year and this year. By the way our last game was last night. Lost again to finish the season 1 – 8. Most of the teams we lost to either made the playoffs or had a good chance to. A lot of tough teams. Josh has another week and a half in his second cast. Then maybe some therapy to get the arm back in shape. Next up the Academic Team, that’s non-contact! 🙂

I did posts on Thanksgiving, Christmas, Mothers Day, Veterans Day, Memorial Day and July 4th. I missed Easter!

I did a post to Westboro Baptist Church on March 2nd and that got the most views ever for this blog on March 3rd. Here

I did posts about my job search. That is still on going. With other miscellaneous posts thrown in here and there.

Thank you to all my readers and subscribers. Especially those who comment! I enjoy reading your comments and responding. You all have made this blog more worth while to me. You have lifted me up when I was down and been an encouragement to me. I have blog friends around the world!

If you have ideas for me to blog about just ask, or if you have a wood craft you would like me to try send me a pattern or again just ask. I will do my best.

Thank you again! I hope you enjoy this recap!

I am on LinkedIn and Facebook now too, along with MySpace. So come Link and friend me!

Ornamentation 2

Hello everyone,

Okay it’s the guys turn today.

These are for my sisters sons and their sons. As I mentioned yesterday, they were ordered like this and it is our interpretation of that style. It also took longer to do than the ladies ornaments. Again they were painted by my wife. I could never do as good a job. Give me a tool that can cut, rip, break, or grip! But a small paint brush? Nope! A big one for painting walls, Okay. Not those small artsy ones!

So here they are. I hope you like these too.

These definitely had a lot of detail and patience to do the camo!

That’s it for tonight. Weekend ahead!

Ornamentation

Hello everyone!

Well I finally heard that my big package was received. So that means I can show you what was in it.

These are more name ornaments that my sister ordered for hers sons and their wives (one each!) and their kids. Since I try my best to be a gentleman I will start off with the ladies. The two wives first then the daughters. These are all hand painted by my wife with the colors my sister wanted or as close as we could get by seeing a color named and we then picked it out.

So that’s why I went with ornamentation! Here they are!

I think they all turned out great! But of course I may be a bit biased. As far as I am concerned it is deservedly so!

Next blog, unless something comes up, I will show you the guys. They may not be as “pretty” but I would say they are manly. But done just as good and they took longer as well. Until then….

Patriotic style

Hello everyone!

So where do I go with a title like that? It comes from a friend who comments here regularly. I sent him two ornaments yesterday and he got them today. Three cheers for suburban mail delivery!

If you read here regularly and check the comments you know who I am talking about. So enough beating around the bush. Here is what I sent Gabe.

GABE

I cut it of course and had the Army logo idea and started painting it, but had to have my wife finish it. She is just better than me by far! Then I put a clear lacquer coat on it.

This one too

You saw this one back on Veterans day.

You may have guessed he is/was in the Army (once=always?) retired now.

So my gift to you Gabe. In honor of your service and our friendship. Hillside was a while ago, but some good times and memories. Now wipe those tears out of your eyes soldier, buck it up! 🙂 (me too)

I delivered a couple more jerseys today so that is winding down as I complete and finish what I was so badly failing at.

Well that is it for today.

A Family Ornament

Hello Everyone!

This will probably be a short post. I don’t have much to share or more pics yet either. I am waiting on confirmation of a big delivery before I post pics of what I sent. I do not want to ruin any surprises. So I wait.

I do have a pic of my youngest daughter’s ornament. She has been painting it by herself and I think it is done unless she wants a clear coat put on it. She is 8 and is doing a good job of painting by hand.

So I will end this short post with a pic of it.

The Hiatus Is Off

Hello Everyone!

I am back to dole out more punishment as per this blog!

We went to my wife’s family’s annual get together in Indiana. As always it was a good time and almost all were there. We missed one niece who has growed up, being a college grad with a new job and all. But we had one GF who made up the number and kept us at 28 this year. That is from two grandparents to two great grand kids and everyone in between. Your spot was filled but you were not replaced Mimi! Though if you miss next year we may have to try!! 🙂

I hope all of you had a good Christmas and are looking forward to the New Year.

I am looking forward to more scroll saw work. I have different projects in mind and just want to get back to making saw dust after some days off from doing so. When we got back and checked the mail one package that I had sent was returned. A bit of a bummer! It was marked “attempted unknown”. I guess “unknown” trumps rain or shine, ice or storm…the BIG unknown just can’t get through. I am waiting to see if I got the wrong addy or something. I hope I can use the same box, that would be a waste if I can’t. Just put new stickers on and good to go right?

I will show you some individual pics of some Christmas word ornaments that I did as a group pic in a previous post.

Catching Up!

Hello Everyone!

I am catching up with the orders! All are cut and sanded. Most are painted. But my hand painter is baking cookies here today with her mom. My spray painting technique needs help. I don’t really know what I am doing wrong. Some times it works out great, but when it goes bad it really stinks!

I got one order in the mail and another was picked up. I tried to deliver another order but he was not at work today. So if you read this Rob G. your order is done. I will try again tomorrow. You NEED to show it off there. Or you can contact me too.

Also a neighbor asked me to do a project for them. It is cutting a wood seat for a chair. So I said yes.  She also wants a snowflake ornament. She didn’t have time to get it at the craft show.

I tried out a new contact form on yesterdays post that wordpress just put out. I lost the whole post! I don’t know if I will get it back. 😦 I can’t remember all that I said. Then I tried it on this one and lost it too! So I had to re-do it. I guess I will wait until they get the bugs worked out.

I also repaired our kitchen faucet today. Yep even in a plumbers house things go wrong with the plumbing. But I had saved parts and faucets from jobs and had the exact part out in the garage. I just had to go find it. It’s good as new! I think I get that saving parts thing from my grandfather. It has come in handy many times over the years. Lots of happy customers when you don’t have to order new parts and wait for them or have to replace the whole faucet when I have had parts in the truck or at my house. 🙂

So here are pics of the rest of Rob’s order.
